Barcelona? Yes, Barcelona.

¿ Qué tal? or should I say  Que tal estàs? Last weekend I went to Barcelona! It was one of my Top 15 ''to visit'' places of my bucket list and now it's finally checked . It is definitely one of my favorite places in Spain. Barcelona looks like a whole different country in Spain due to its two official languages Catalan and Spanish. I didn´t know but Catalan is very present in the society. All bus stops, addresses, most of advertisments, name of shops are in Catalan. It felt like I was in a totally different country! That came to me by surprise and I think it is a very interesting fact. Everybody does speak Spanish there but all the rest is in Catalan. About the architecture... it is unique.  The most known monuments in Barcelona are designed by the same person, Antoni Gaudí! Parque Güell: One of the most famous tourist attractions in Barcelona. If you plan to go there BUY TICKETS IN ADVANCE. Don´t make the mistake of going there thinking that th

Alhambra of Granada

¡ Buenas! Life is not just working after all! Last weekend I went to Granada. It is about 1,5 hours by bus from Málaga. The cities most known tourist attraction is a fortress called Alhambra. It is definetely one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. Málaga's fortress and castle Alcazaba and Gibralfaro don't even get close to Alhambra. Here are a few pics: Perfect place to have a picnic and learn more about history. The city of Granada itself is also very beautiful. There a lot of nice restaurants, parks, pubs and cafés. One thing that surprised me the most was that there are these mountains which on top you could see snow! I totally recommend that place to visit. You will not get disappointed. P.S: If you plan to visit Alhambra buy the tickets at least 2 weeks before. They are usually sold out so gotta be quick! + if you like books right in the bus station you can find a guy selling all kind of classics in English and Spa

Experience with guests

Image
¿ Qué tal? So far I've done quite a few check ins, so I've experienced all kind of problems and situations with guests. Sometimes happens to not get the door opened so I have to call for somebody's help, forget the pen so the guests can't sign the contract or forget to tell some information that might be important like what to do during the checkout (which is just leave the keys of the apartment on the table and close the door). Mistakes are gonna happen and everybody here understands that. Even the staff that have been here for years make mistakes sometimes. So don't you worry if things don't go as planned at first. With mistakes you learn. For you that is reading this and will start working at Living4malaga, keep this on mind before the check in: 1. Don't forget the PEN (without one the guest won't be able to sign the contract) 2. Don't forget the contract itself  'cause you know...3. Don't forget the credit card machine in case the p

My work at Living4malaga

¡Hola! Once again a late post, but for you that want to know more about my work placement, will be an enlighting one. To begin with, I am an intern at an office in the main street of Málaga. There, me and another intern from Perho, do all kinds of tasks. We usually start our day printing all contracts and ''arrival timetable'' for the next day. Then the rest of the day is either at the office putting all infos from the check ins that our colleagues did to the computer or at different apartments doings check ins. Before we could do the check in without supervision we just accompanied our colleagues to the apartments to learn as much as possible. Well, last week I did my first check ins, which means, I went through the contract with clients and showed them the apartment they will be staying for a few days. Luckily, my first clients were Finns so it was a bit easier to do the check in. The rest of the check ins I've done so far were in English. Most of our gues

Semana Santa in Málaga (biggest Easter in Spain)

Image
!Hola! This is a late post about Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Málaga. As you may already know Easter was celebrated this year from March 25th until April 1st. In Málaga Easter or Semana Santa is one of the most celebrated events of the year! Many tourists come from other parts of Spain or other countries to see it. The celebration, as far as I know, consists on parades that many schools, organizations participate. There are hundreds of volunteers and tuns of ''Tronos'' (processions), each representing the last days of Jesus Christ until his ressurection. Many kids collected wax from the big candles to make balls of wax. No sure for what but kids are kids, I guess hehe  So, what does this have anything to do with my intership? Well I came to Málaga two days before this CRAZY event (crazy because almost everything stops because of the event and I was definetely not prepared for that), so at first was a shock to see all these people in the parade we

General info

¡Buenas! This weeks post is more informational about my days of work, free days and for last some tips for you. To begin with, I live in a Airbnb with other three women (1 is rarely home) about 20 min walking from downtown (and my office). So far so good. Almost everyday I go to work at 10 am and leave at 18 pm. Usually shops, boutiques, museums open at 10 am. In addition, I've heard that it's common to have TWO breakfasts a day! So that is why, I believe, people  in Spain  have their dinner and go to bed  so late. My hosts, for example, eat dinner normally at 21 pm or 22 pm. And lunch is from 13 pm to 16 pm.  Talking about food, I have to recommend this well-known café in Málaga called La Canasta. The salad I ordered is ceaser chicken salad and ginger/orange/carrot juice. Yummy.  For me these eating habits are a bit difficult to get used to, because after all in my home country, Finland, we tend to have our lunch and dinner many hours earlier in comparison to Sp

My first week in Málaga

Image
¡ Buenas! Today is my 8th day in Málaga and 1 week of work is done already! I'm an intern at Living4Malaga and I will be working there for 2 months. In case you are not familiar with the company, it is a sort of inbound agency that rents luxury apartments for tourists in the best locations of Málaga and Madrid. They also offer other services such as parking, excursions, transport etc. My first days in Málaga (before I started working) I explored the city and its tourist attractions so in case a client asked me what to do in the city, I would know what to recommend. On the second day I went to Málaga Cathedral: The entrance is 6€ and there is even the possibility to go to the roof of the cathedral for 4€ (opens a few times a day and be there on time when it does!) On the third day I went to La Alcazaba, El teatro romano and El castillo de Gibralfaro and walked like crazy to the top of the hill! But it was worth it 'cause the view from there is beautiful
